CroizetCognac Vintage 1858 700mL
About this product
On 21st November 1892, Léonie Croizet married the son of a local dignitary. As the head of a prominent cognac family, her father was in a position to provide a truly impressive dowry for Léon’s beloved great granddaughter. Over the previous 15 years the grape disease Phylloxera had devastated the vineyards of Cognac but Mr. Croizet possessed a fine stock. He gave his daughter cognacs from the harvest of 1858, 1868, 1872 and 1875. Léonie understood their value and guarded them preciously. Over time, Croizet would use most of Léonie Croizet’s private reserve; however, the cognacs from the 1858 harvest have remained under lock and key since 1916 in the exclusive cellar known simply as “Paradis”. The pre-phylloxera grapes used to make this cognac represent a time that has been lost forever.
The cognac remains full of vigour, a great deal of ‘fattiness’ (physical sensation of a thick liquid on the palette coming from concentration through evaporation over the years) with a mellowness and exceptional length.
