This is a Stoddart trophy winner. The GDR stands for “Great Dividing Range. The Stoddart - out of the Brisbane show - is a strange award, often awarded to old-fashioned oak-heavy reds. This one though is a particularly good Stoddart winner. This is a great way to get some representation of Hilltops cabernet into your cellar. Lots of fine, sinewy, authoritative tannin. Blackcurrant, dark olives, ripples of fruity length. Fine tip of mint/eucalypt. I’d have to say – $40 is better than reasonable for a wine of this quality. Essence-like.
