Max Lake and family established Lake's Folly in 1963 and has since gone to become a true Hunter Valley icon. Making only 2 wines and concentrating most on their iconic Cabernet blend, Lake's definitely take the laid back approach to winemaking. Utilising traditional methods like hand picking, gentle crushing and open top fermenters, the Lake's Folly Cabernet is a lovely hark back to an old Australian 'Claret' style. The 1997 comes from a difficult vintage with intermittent rain making life a little difficult, yet with good vineyard management the difficulties were overcome and wines of great minerality and complexity were produced.
