PenfoldsGrange 1958
About this product
The 1958 Penfolds Grange was the second of three 'hidden Granges'. Penfolds had ordered Max Schubert to cease production of the revolutionary dry red wine due to market pressure. Max continued to make his 'masterpiece' in secret which has ensured an unbroken line of vertical vintages of Australia's most important wine dating back to 1951. The 1958 was made from 94% Shiraz and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon and was sourced from three different 'regions'; Adelaide, Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale. Within the bottle, the wine it mostly past its prime but is holding quite nicely. Dark chocolate notes with peaty whisky tones and freshly ground herbs on the nose. Quite austere with some pleasant earthy, mocha flavours.
