Fermented with twice daily pumpovers for a week, before maturation across a melody of oak origins: French, American and Hungarian (20% new). The result is an appetising, full bodied wine of floral scents, anise and red to blue fruits at its core. Eucalyptus, together with oak-derived pines and cedars, guide the fruit to a long finish defined by finely woven tannins and dutiful acidity.

The influence of American oak here is clear and it’s a positive one. There’s a creamy, toasty, chocolatey aspect to the palate and it works well with the plum/blackberry fruit flavour. It’s a wine looking for an argument in that it has that kind of sternness, but oak helps to soften its face. Mint notes add perfume but the longer you sit with this wine the firmer it seems; its seriousness is undeniable. It’s got places to go. It’s not a big wine but it’s impressive.
