About this product

The 1957 Penfolds Grange was the first of three 'hidden Granges'. Penfolds had ordered Max Schubert to cease production of the revolutionary dry red wine due to market pressure. Max continued to make his 'masterpiece' in secret which has ensured an unbroken line of vertical vintages of Australia's most important wine dating back to 1951. The 1957 was made from 88% Shiraz and 12% Cabernet Sauvignon and was matured for 9 months in last years Grange barrels. The wine itself is well concentrated with mature, sweet mocha, molasses and meaty flavours present with a firm, muscular dry finish.
