PetalumaCoonawarra 2003
About this product
Petaluma, founded by Australian wine icon Brian Croser in 1976 have been at the forefront of regional wines and the hand-crafting of styles that suit the terroir. Only 3 years after Petaluma's founding, the first Coonawarra Cabernet Shiraz blend was produced and was a marker for what was to come. The 2003 though is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot is holding up remarkably well. Vibrantly fresh on the nose and the palate with swathes of ripe fruit and quite brilliant oak integration. Even though this great wine has been 8 years since vintage, the possibility to age for a further 5 years is remarkable.

Full bodied red wines have a noticeably textural mouthfeel with bold, complex flavours. Often deeply coloured.
Dry wines have no trace of sweetness at all.

Surprisingly unevolved on the bouquet, with oak sitting atop cassis and cigar box aromas; medium-bodied with just a little evolution showing through on the palate, the tannins are superfine and the fruit in very good condition; surprisingly long and very well balanced. Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot.
