Vintage 2015
95 points
The Grampians region in western Victoria is responsible for some of Australia's very best shiraz wines. Warm days, cold nights, ideal soils and older vines all combine to produce rich, sometimes silken, reds of high repute. The 2015 Cliff Edge was hailed on release as one of the best ever under that label. Sampling it in January 2023, there is no doubting the early assertions as to its class. The sweet, spicy initial burst of flavour is formidable. The basket of supple fruits - spiced cherries, plums, blackberries, combined with an array of spices - pepper, clove, licorice, and vanilla, all bedded down comfortably on a carpet of silty fine tannin, makes this a wine to examine carefully, as each sip reveals another component. History shows that, carefully cellared, Grampians shiraz can be cellared for 20 or more years.
