Vintage 2014
98 points
Ten years of maturation is nothing for a Leeuwin Estate Art Series Chardonnay. The Margaret River icon carries age supremely well, transitioning very gradually from "outstanding" to "spectacular." The 2014 vintage is very much in its pomp, the trademark fruit purity as clear as a bell. Bell and whistle winemaking inputs are, of course, employed (vast sums are spent, for instance, on the very best oak), yet, this is all "sotto voce" - the fruit must not be compromised! As always, it's a thrill for the Dan's panel to assess an Art Series Chardonnay. We were delighted to enjoy a wine of intensity and finesse, still under tight control, not so expansive as the 2013, but with added grace and linearity. A melange of flavours from citrus to stonefruit, pears, spices, nuts, minerality, a touch of old ginger and light vanilla - complex to the core - exceptionally long and pleasurable. (tasted May, 2023).
