Slightly less intense colour than Merite, but still very good; this has remarkable focus and purity, gossamer tannins threaded through the predominantly red fruits of the mid-palate, thence to the gently earthy/savoury flavours and mouthfeel on the finish. It''s only medium-bodied at best, but has great balance and precise use of new oak. As the vines mature, even greater things lie in store.

The Merlots from Bordeaux are some of the world's most pricey, sought-after and age-worthy red wines. Here in Australia, examples to date have been more miss than hit, simply because we imported the wrong clone. This has now been rectified, and we are now starting to see some truly impressive examples being released. This wine, a convincing case in point. Saturated blackcurrant, plum, mushroom, and cedar abound. The palate is possessed by silky, fine tannins. The length impressive. World-class. If you think of Merlot as just a soft red - think again!
