FrescobaldiBenefizio Pomino Bianco Riserva DOC
About this product
The Frescobaldi Castello Pomino estate dates back to the year 1500, when the castle of the same name was built here in the Florentine mountains. It was identified by Grand Duke Cosimo III de'Medici as far back as 1716 as an exceptional area for the production of wines, alongside areas such as Chianti, Carmignano, and Val d'Arno di Sopra. At an altitude of 700 metres above sea level, the cooler conditions are ideal for growing fine and complex Chardonnay.
The Benefizio Cru first came into being in 1973 as the first white wine in Italy to be fermented and aged in oak barriques. The current oak regime is 50% new and 50% first fill, with partial malolactic fermentation and occasional lees stirring.
The resulting wine is a pale straw-yellow in appearance. Complex and intriguing on the nose, with exotic notes of mango, white peach, toasted cashews and hints of freshly churned butter. Creamy and textural on the palate, with well-judged, moreish notes of toasty oak. A beautifully layered wine.
