Marqués De Murrieta
Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Rioja 2012

About this product

The iconic Castillo Ygay from Marques de Murrieta is always made from grapes from La Plana, a 40-hectare vineyard planted in 1950 at 485 metres above sea level, in the highest area of the Ygay Estate in the Rioja Alta. This 2012 vintage further cemented its legendary status with its recent 100 point score from James Suckling.

The 2012 Ygay is a blend of 81% Tempranillo and 19% Mazuelo. Both varieties are aged for 34 months in barriques - the Tempranillo in American oak, and the Mazuelo in French oak, with a further maturation of 24 months in concrete tanks after blending.

A full and complex nose with black cherry and ripe plum aromas, hints of tea leaves, cedar wood and Mediterranean herbs on a background of dried flowers. Well framed and deep in the mouth, with polished tannins and full of nuances; harmonious and long-lived. “Another legendary Castillo Ygay vintage that brazenly challenges the passage of time”. María Vargas - Technical Director of Marqués de Murrieta.
