The vines were planted in 1916 on the northern side of the family homestead, the soil a mix of clay, sand and loam on a base of limestone and clay. Deeply coloured, it is as yet very confronting on the bouquet, then a blockbuster palate with strong black fruits which are more savoury than any of the other wines in the group, and will be very long-lived. Needs time.
