Robert Mondavi Winery Estate Carneros Chardonnay 2021 opens with aromas of citrus with jasmine, a flinty character, and toasty nuttiness. On the palate, it bursts with fresh stone fruit and citrus that carry all the way through a long, fresh finish. This wine has a medium weight with great depth and nice density, it really shows an elegance on the palate. The 2021 vintage was excellent and mild. After rains in January and February, the growing season remained dry. Temperatures were moderate and the weather optimal at bud break in April and bloom in May. Weather remained even through summer and harvest, resulting in a lower-than-average yield with small, deeply concentrated grapes. The fruit was harvested by hand between August 26th and October 16th, as each site reached its optimal phenolic ripeness. The juice was fermented and aged sur lies for six months in French oak (15% new) to add a subtle toasty character.
