90/6/4% shiraz/mourvèdre/riesling. The riesling was co-fermented with a small parcel of shiraz. Not your usual red blend by a long shot, riesling in this case taking the role we might usually expect of viognier. Immediately different. The first whiff is all black cherry, cracked black pepper, plums, earth and game with a curious thread of florals. Rich and savoury, it delves into chocolate, licorice, baking spices, gingerbread and violets. A little chaotic to be sure.
