About this product
Named after John Coles, an early farmer and owner of our Woodvale property in the Skilly valley, the 2017 Shiraz is a blend of three premium Clare Valley vineyards, all harvested and vinified separately before final blending and bottling took place in November 2018. Richly textured and supported by subtle French oak char and fine grained tannins, the nose and palate display an elegant infusion of red fruits, liquorice, dried herbs, tar and charcuterie in a long and persistent finish.

Don't you just love discovering small maker wines with all of their quirky, hand made ways? There's clearly no long production lines involved with this one. It's very much a hand-crafted red, and all the better for it, allowing the winemaker to express his ideas clearly and impressively. The highlight here is the fleshy, buoyant black fruit - inky dark and very "moreish". There's a crisp line of acidity to keep things tight and fresh. It's a wine worth pursuing.
