It's not often that a wine stampedes into the market place offering such outstanding value for money as The Butchers Friend. It's sub-$20 price beggars belief. The colour is inky deep purple and dark plum. The nose shows fragrant violets, vanilla, kirsch, aniseed, black fruit and cedar. But it's the saturated, solid core of black currant and blackberry/plum fruit with drooling liqueur-like richness and texture that will have the fans baying for more. The sheer intensity of flavour that persists right through to the prolonged velvety end is what sets this shiraz well above its peers.
Char-grill your favourite prime cut of meat, crack open a bottle of "Butchers" and you're in for a treat. But be warned - you will definitely need to clean your purple stained teeth after this one!
