A deep inky colour, carrying lots of weight, but easily. Sweet, dark berries, black cherries, silky tannins and a classic, smooth, Barossa "big wine" feel takes this carefully aged shiraz to the ranks of "special occasion" wine.

Easy to forget that the (good guy) winemaker, Stu Blackwell, has been at the helm of St Hallet since 1972 – that’s a stint. Fruit comes from a pocket of the Barossa Valley and is matured in American oak. Pops out of the glass with jubey, vanilla-kissed fruit, spicy-cinnamon-clove oak character. Big volume of perfume. Sweet, candied, attractive. Glides through the palate with dark fruits, liquid spice, builds with chewy pucker of tannins, goes peppery, finishes with sinewy oak character. Like that bright, medium weight fruit feel, though oak is a feature so far. Despite the overt oak, has mass appeal.
