Vintage 2013
95 points
Knowing that 2013 was a low-yielding vintage will quicken the heart rate of many McLaren Vale shiraz fans. The Kay Brothers Hillside meets every expectation. The depth and richness of colour provide the first encouraging sign. Thick, rich aromas of dark fruit, wood smoke and chocolate waft easily from the glass. The palate is has a typical "low-yield" intensity, saturated with plump, fleshy blackberry and plum flavours, with typical earthy chocolate supporting notes. Cedary tannins are soft on the very long and satisfying finish. Although this wine has spent 6 years in our cellar, Hillsides have a track record of continued improvement for 10+ years.
