Vintage 2013
95 points Halliday Wine Companion
This is the best of the St Hugo releases from the 2013 vintage. It just has more and better structure. It feels like a real wine. It loads spearmint and gum leaf into curranty fruit, holds plenty of power and then cuts out long and dry through the finish. Cabernet is the main driver here. There’s malty oak and cherry liqueur fruit, but that long, dusty, curranty, minty power drive is where it’s at.

Medium deep colour. Fresh cassis, blackberry, dark plum aromas with minty notes and underlying savoury oak complexity. Sweet dark plum, blackcurrant fruit with paneforte, fine plentiful chalky tannins, attractive richness and dark mint-chocolate notes. Finishes chocolaty firm, with plenty of flavour length and linear crispness. A classic Australian combination of Coonawarra elegance and Barossa richness. Drink now or keep for a while.
