With an average age of 25 years across the blended components, this beautiful fortified is a testament to this country's vinous past, a legacy of those who crafted it and proof of the outstanding quality of this category of wine. Rancio aromas calibrate the senses to the complexity at hand. Cheesecloth, varnish, lacquered duck, toasted walnut, ginger, five-spice, creme caramel and orange zest. I could write more given the cavalcade of scents, textures and flavours, but this is surely sufficient to convey grandeur.
