About this product

We named our Grenache in honour of their age ‘Four Score” being 80+ years old. The dry grown gnarly Grenache vines on our Foggo Rd vineyard were planted in 1928 in sandy soil, which has meant that the vine has established its root system deep in the soil in search for water. Once old bush vines we pulled these vines up onto trellis to make for easier management and in turn protect the vines from disease and damage.

Open fermenters for gentle cap management are important with this style of Grenache to ensure gentle extraction of tannin and colour. Partial whole bunch (Carbonic Maceration) is also added to the ferment to give another dimension of flavour to the wine.

Vibrant brick red in colour. The nose explodes with great intensity with amazing complexity for such a young wine. The classic cherry berry fruit is present, however equally balanced with an assortment of intriguing layers of savoury, earthiness, rosemary, along with the confectionary sweetness of sarsaparilla.

The palate carries all the excitement of the nose with great control in the balance of acid and tannin. The structure of the fine tannin complements the layers of fruit beautifully, while the length lingers and leaves a lasting impression.

Potential: 10+ Years.
