Michel Chapoutier takes a departure away from the Rhône Valley with his fine dessert red wine, Banyuls. The appellation overhangs the Mediterranean Sea on the southern French coast bordering Spain and sits atop soils of stony schist soil. The soil and the unique climatic conditions provide a perfect breeding ground for Grenache that transforms itself into a rich, sumptuous fortified red with coffee, mocha and toffee notes.

As a non-wine drinker I was introduced to this at a wine tasting class and was surprised at how delicious it was. Never thought I'd enjoy a red wine. This is a very sweet wine but has complex flavours that make it enjoyable and interesting
