This wine is clean and polished. Not a bad start given that Devil's Lair reds can be a bit wooly at times - though that admitted, there's a clinical feel to the way this wine presents. It tastes mostly of blackcurrant, eucalypt, impeccably integrated cedarwood and gentle mulch. There are some chocolate/pencil-like notes too and a minor spray of cabernet-esque leaf matter. It's not a wine to get your heart racing but I can't criticise it for quality. Lovely finish. Solid, fine-grained, unapologetic tannin. Yes, it is a quality wine.

The style of the 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon has changed with Olivers influence, bringing the Cabernet expression of this Bordeaux blend more to the forefront. It contains 14% Merlot, spent 15 months in oak, 30% new and will have had 12 months in bottle prior to its release in November 2010. Deep garnet-purple in color it has pure, pretty aromas of cassis, blackberry, cardamom, mint, pencil shavings and a whiff of Mediterranean herbs. Theres plenty of juicy fruit fleshing out the firm, fine tannins and crisp acidity, lingering through the long finish. Consider drinking it 2012 to 2020+.
