Vintage 2014

I always find the Prophet's Rock Pinot Noirs to be a bit reticent on the nose, and the 2014 Home Vineyard Pinot Noir is no exception. Give it some time in the glass, decanter or (better yet) the cellar, and it will blossom. From the Bendigo sub region, this is a medium to full-bodied, black-fruited wine, loaded with cherry and plum, with subtleties waiting to emerge in time. Seventeen months in French oak (35%) new, has provided a fine, glossy veneer, but the fruit easily outshines the wood, lingering elegantly on the finish.

Magnificently complex and supremely elegant, the wine shows dark cherry, game, earthy mushroom, black olive and toasted almond notes on the nose. The palate offers lovely weight and roundness, combined with fine texture and polished tannins, leading to a beautifully long expansive finish. A wine of sophistication and classic structure. At its best: now to 2024
