The full weight of the mighty Penfolds winemaking machine has been brought to bear in the production of this instant icon. To cut to the chase, it's glorious. Immensely powerful and saturating and yet supremely balanced. Glossy black - impenetrable. Sweet black currant fruit, (87% Napa Valley Cabernet and 13% highest grade South Australian Shiraz) freshening blue fruit notes, gentle spices, a touch of mint, ironstone/graphite, black olive, mocha, tight knit acid drive and ripe, fine tannins - and that’s just the start! Built for the luxury end of the market, and built to last. This first edition should become a very famous wine.

Deeply coloured, there are layers of blackcurrant, blackberry, chocolate, clove and gravelly fruit kept tight by 100% new American and French oak. The palate is then dense and dry; chewy but balanced tannins are matched by ripe, immaculate and focused fruit. The balance is there and this wine will live for decades but it will be at least ten years before it all begins to unravel.
