Pristine and bright with excellent fruit purity, the wine shows Black Doris plum, sweet cherry, floral, cracked pepper and hazelnut aromas on the nose, followed by a silky-smooth palate that's filled with ripe fruit richness and rounded tannins. Comforting and deliciously attractive. At its best: now to 2036 .

Given that Blewitt Springs has become, over the years, a highly prized sub-region of McLaren Vale, it was smart to keep new oak away from this wine (it was matured in seasoned French oak) and to keep the fruit pure and clear. That's exactly how the wine presents in the glass, with bright and juicy raspberry, violet, choc-mint and port-wine jelly flavours slowly drifting into darker, more blackberried pools. It smells like Black Forest cake and tastes a little of it too, though the finish is controlled and dry. It's drinking well already, though there's certainly no hurry.
