Vintage 2019

Single-vineyard fruit from the estate’s Murrumbateman Nanima vineyard. Hand-picked, 35% whole bunches, the rest whole berries. Cold soak in 1.5 ;3t open-top fermenters for 7 days, fermented 14 days. Some parcels extended maceration. 12 months in French barriques, 35% new, the rest 1–3yo. This is made almost identically to the Heywood shiraz, (bar the extra 5% whole bunches, capped at 35% here). Both wines are really an expression of their site. This is obviously different yet equally compelling. It’s more plush, with darker fruit, more woodsy spices and pepper. The palate is full bodied, with shapely, grainy yet denser tannins and the acidity is bright and encompassing. It is also incredibly vibrant and, quite frankly, rather sexy.
