It’s 90% shiraz and 10% pinot noir and all older vines and a very serious expression of Hunter. The juices were blended to get here. It’s a beauty, it’s Beaujolais-like and fresh, supple and vibrant feeling, all kirsch and red cherry led and dusted with a light sprinkle of sweet spice. It’s a refreshing red, shows some crisp edges and a flighty lick of fine, silty tannins, goes long and finishes cool and delicious. A ripper of a drink here, a touch fancy and it ends up that this is a mid-week guzzler of high pedigree and interest. I drank most of my bottle from tumblers, with gusto. Would get stuck into heaps of this.

I love this! A hark to the past as a harbinger of the present. A classic 'Hunter River Burgundy' blend (90/10% shiraz/pinot) dating back to the greats of the 1950s and '60s. But in these hands, appropriated to the sassy, pulpy and limpid style that makes for delicious contemporary drinking. Best, without forfeiting regional DNA. Hunter varnish, bing cherry, persimmon, Seville orange and clove. Expanding sweetness through the middle. An effortless finish of silken tannin and juicy acidity. Lovely drinking.
