Most of the superb fruit for the Bin 149 Cabernet is from the Napa Valley, with a decent dollop of top echelon Australian Cab' in there to provide added quality. You will recognise the Penfolds signature in this wine - ripe, kirsch-like fruit, a certain oak regime - fine grained tannins, vanilla and coffee grounds, meatiness and ironstone. The wine deviates from the Penfolds norm with its creamy dark cherry notes and ethereal, floating fruit flavours. Highly seductive, give it an hour or so to open up. It becomes beautifully multi-faceted, with something to discover in every mouthful.
