The complete Caol Ila, in which the rich texture and sweetness introduced by the sweet Moscatel-seasoned casks smoothly complement and add depth to the smoky-clean character of the regular release. This official bottling is part of Diageo's Distiller's Edition series, and has been dual-matured, with the finishing period in re-charred American oak casks previously holding Moscatel, contributing spice to Caol Ila's signature sweet smoke. The Diageo Distiller's Editions are now an ongoing part of the range without a vintage year.Official Tasting Notes Nose Forward and immediately smoky-spicy, opening up to reveal Caol Ila’s trademark fresh clean notes. Once they appear, it’s as if someone has just put the bonfire out by throwing water on it. There is fruit too, subdued by comparison. Palate and Firm and oily-smooth in texture, the taste sweet and mouth coating to start, with a full smoky attack on the palate, and intensely flavourful in nature. This concentrated smokiness is well balanced by sweetness, body and light-wood spice.
