An exciting and inexpensive Mencia from Bierzo in north west Spain which showcases the attributes that have made the grape such an emerging player in recent years.
An immediate dark cherry and violet note on the nose invites you in. There’s substantial depth of flavour, a typical Mencia attribute, aided by the 50 years that the vines have been in the ground. Flavours revolve around smoky meats, a garni of sage, oregano, mint and plus the rush of crushed wild berries, with a layer of protein absorbing tannin to aid the structure. Great with dry rubbed grilled pork ribs.
