Too often Malbec in the Clare Valley is blended away anonymously or to improve other wines. For example, Cabernet Malbec blends are particularly enjoyable. Very good malbec can easily stand on its own two feet. This malbec is from a single vineyard in the famed Armagh area. The original vine cuttings are from Wendouree. And it is very good.
This is a dark fruited, generously juicy style showing polished tannins and delivering outstanding depths of flavour. Stand-alone malbec is gaining traction in Australia. Like grenache, it has just taken us a while to appreciate its delicious attributes.
