The Hazeldene vineyard is in the cooler reaches of the Yarra Valley in a north facing position. The fruit has a long ripening time allowing greater intensity of flavour. The 2019 vintage produced a wonderful, mouth-wateringly good. chardonnay. Vivid white peach and grapefruit flavours are nuanced with crunchy minerality, nuttiness, and a touch of flint, then judicious French oak smooths the whole thing out. This is a high energy, exhilarating chardonnay from one of the masters of the genre.

The winemaking of all the Vineyard Series chardonnays is the same: hand picked, whole bunches pressed directly to French puncheons, natural fermentation and aged 10 months on lees. It's not so much a recipe, but a means of extracting and holding on to the differences of each site. This the most accessible in the range, and immediately satisfying. An assortment of citrus, white nectarine, ginger spice and chalky acidity.
