Tasted Sept 2021. The 2010 vintage was a glorious one in the Barossa. The best wines, from the outset, seemed effortlessly powerful. The 2010 Shadrach has 62% Eden Valley fruit and this is key to its remarkable freshness and allure. Sure, there's a core of deep, dark cassis fruit, but the Eden Valley component brings the whole thing to a higher level, introducing crunchy dark cherry and blue fruit notes. Soft powder-like tannins and cocoa notes create a feel of velvety smoothness, and oak, unusually, in this style of wine, is, pleasingly, only a "bit-player". The wine is in its optimum drinking window but should hold well for a few more years.
