Champagne Cuvée 1522 Grand Cru Extra-Brut Vintage

The Philipponnat family has owned and run its Champagne house in the heart of the wine-growing areas of Aÿ, Mareuil-sur-Aÿ and Averney for over 500 years. A family of vignerons, winemakers and merchants since the 16th century, they famously supplied their wines to Louis XIV, the Sun King. The house’s 20 hectares of vines are Grand and Premier Cru, ensuring quality and intensity in the wines. First press juice from exclusively Premier and Grand Cru plots. The name of Cuvée 1522 is a tribute to the year when the Philipponnat family settled in the village of Ay, in the heart of the Champagne vine-growing area. This exceptional vintage Champagne is light gold and voluminous in colour. An intense, floral nose, with notes of fruit blossom, cherry, elderflower and hints of violet lead to an expressive and generous palate. It offers dark fruits aromas (blackberry, ripe—even candied—blackcurrant, black cherry) combined with notes of almond, hints of dried fruit and nuts. The finish is remarkably fresh for the vintage.
