It's no secret that the better areas of the Languedoc are producing some of the best value wines in the world today. It's also true that the region has attracted many highly credentialled winemakers in recent times, such as Eric Fabre, ex Chateau Lafite Rothschild. Eric's vast experience is evident in the precision of the wine. Despite the cepage of syrah, grenache and mourvedre, the wine has a "claret-like" structure. There's a generous and loose knit serving of black fruit, juniper, plums, currants and spice, all rounded and moreish, a more than a hint of local garrigue. The highlights for us are the balance and refinement, the gorgeous aromatics and the silkiness of the tannins. All of this at such a remarkably good price! No wonder some of the wine world's top critics are raving about Chateau d'Angles. We've added an extra point or two for the extraordinary value this wine offers.
