The Sunshine State was once known for light beer and dark rum, but there's something in the water up north and it's likely to be grain, hops and yeast. Breweries in Brisbane and the Gold Coast have taken the Australian craft scene by storm, with names like Balter, Ballistic and Black Hops producing some of the best beers in the country (as voted by the people). Add in an ever-increasing number of small-batch distilleries and you've got so much choice, it's no wonder the lack of wineries doesn't seem to worry the locals.
