Named after the historic steam locomotive that once connected Adelaide and Melbourne, this wine celebrates innovation and the pioneering spirit of John Riddoch. Drawing from select vineyards along Coonawarra’s prized terra rossa strip, it showcases meticulous winemaking with 15 months’ oak maturation and 24 months’ bottle ageing. The result is a richly textured, cellar-worthy Cabernet Sauvignon that perfectly balances purity and power. Limited to just 3,060 bottles, The Federator sets a fresh benchmark for premium Coonawarra Cabernet.

The Author pays homage to pioneering vigneron John Riddoch (1827-1901). A true visionary, Riddoch is regarded as one of the founding fathers of Australian wine. An influential figure, he established The Coonawarra Fruit Colony in 1890 and a synonymous with the region’s story. The Author represents the finest expression of the vintage.

Elgin's Crossing commemorates pioneering vigneron John Riddoch’s outward voyage to Australia aboard the sailing ship, The Lady Elgin, in 1851. Riddoch went on to become an influential figure in South Australia, establishing the Coonawarra Fruit Colony in 1890. This range embodies the discovery of quality Coonawarra vineyard expressions.

Regarded as one of the founding fathers of Australian wine, the pioneering John Riddoch was perhaps the first to realise the rich potential of the Coonawarra region. Winning the coveted Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy win in 1987, Riddoch Coonawarra continues to take advantage of the consistent and distinctive fruit flavours of the region and surrounds, crafting award-winning and esteemed wines of excellence and reflective of their provenance.
Meet Riddoch’s Chief Winemaker - Matthew Reimann
Born and raised in South Australia, Matthew has had red wine running through his veins for as long as he can remember. He received his Bachelor of Wine Science from Charles Sturt University in 2007, and has gone on to create award-winning wines as a specialist red winemaker. He honed his skills in some of Australia’s most famous wine-making regions, and now he’s using all his experience, talent and knowledge to craft benchmark Coonawarra wines.
