In early 2017, Laurent Ponost decided to leave Domaine Ponsot and set up his own label together with his son, Clement. Having been the face and ambassadeur for his family's winery for nearly four decades, there is no doubt this decision made waves through the wine world. Laurent still owns 25% of Domaine Ponsot and whilst moving out of the old quarters in Morey-St-Denis and down the road to his newly built winery in Gilly Les Citeaux, he’s started to transform the concept of what is possible and how to bring age old knowledge forward. Part of the agreement in leaving the Domaine was that he took certain vineyard holdings (or sharecropping agreements) with him and as such he’s now making wines from celebrated vineyards such as Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes, Griotte Chambertin Grand Cru and the jewel in the crown, which for so many years was collected and revered by Burgundy aficionados, Clos Saint Denis Grand Cru.
