Isabel Estate is one of Marlborough's original vineyards, located just outside Renwick in the heart of the Wairau Valley. The Aratoro Chardonnay and Pinot Noir embody the culmination of our winemakers' global journeys, where they have gathered refined winemaking expertise with each passing vintage. The Winemaker of Isabel Estate
JEREMY MCKENZIE, CHIEF WINEMAKER
Award-winning winemaker, Jeremy McKenzie is a seasoned Marlborough expert who focuses on crafting wine that reflects the true terroir at Isabel Estate. Growing up on a farm in Hawarden in the Canterbury region, Jeremy is a real Kiwi hunter-gatherer, action man and winemaker.
After completing his studies, a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and a Post Graduate Diploma in Viticulture and Oenology, Jeremy’s knowledge and passion took him to industry roles in France, Australia, Canada and the USA where he gained extensive winemaking experience at some of the leading wineries in the world. Jeremy has brought his passion to craft exceptional quality wines along with his wealth of international knowledge, home to Marlborough to continue his endless pursuit of winemaking perfection at Isabel Estate.
Jeremy has earned international acclaim and achievement through the outstanding pedigree and reputation of Isabel Estate and its wines.
Isabel Estate's Commitment to Sustainability
Isabel Estate is a strong advocate for sustainability and with projects such as Mahi mo te Taiao - Working for Nature, the transition of 13 Hectares of vineyard into Organics and resident beehives on site, contributing through native plantings and seeding wildflower/buckwheat/phacelia in the vineyards, encouraging the all important of bees/native insects and birdlife to Aotearoa's unique biodiversity.
Isabel Estate is part of Sustainable Winegrowing NZ and is a BioGro certified winery and vineyard. The winery is continually researching and trialling ways to reduce its impact on the environment. As Kaitiaki of the Estate, Isabel Estate are conscious of leaving the land in a healthy state for future generations and also the belief that quality wine comes from vines nourished by healthy soils and balanced ecosystems.
For Isabel Estate's team, sustainability begins in the vineyards, not only with the soils but with sustainable/ethical responsibility for the labour source and this continues through the stages of the winemaking process and packaging.
