Turn sunny days into ice-cold beers with this radical new program.

A hard-earned thirst for sustainability deserves an ice-cold beer. And the best cold beer comes from Victoria Bitter’s Solar Exchange. If you’re wondering what the hell we’re talking about, pay close attention because this new program that rewards clean energy with cold hard beer is shaking up the beer economy.

If you’ve got solar panels on your roof, chances are you’re generating more energy than you use. You could sell that excess back to the grid, but we’ve got a better idea: the VB Solar Exchange. The way it works is simple. The first step is signing up. If you’re not already a Diamond Energy customer (VB’s energy retail partner), they’ll be in touch to get you hooked up. Then, all you need to do is let the sun work its magic. Throw the footy around. Chuck a barbie. Do literally anything. For every $30 worth of excess energy your solar panels generate per quarter, you’ll receive a unique barcode. All that’s left to do is fix up your bill, scan your barcodes at your nearest Dan Murphy’s store and claim your slabs of VB. Pretty neat, right?

This isn’t the Abbotsford Avocado’s first foray into sustainable energy. Since 2020, every drop of the beloved beer has been brewed with 100% offset solar energy. It’s all part of Asahi’s (Victoria Bitter’s parent company) sustainability agenda. “We’ve launched this Aussie-first program to thank those who have made the effort to go solar with some hard-earned VB,” says Brian Phan, General Manager of Marketing at VB. “The only thing better than drinking the Big Cold Beer in the Aussie sun is earning beer while you do it.”

Almost 20% of Dan Murphy’s stores are solar-powered already, with plans to be 100% renewable-powered by 2030, and net-zero by 2050, well on track. With locations in Mandurah, Adelaide and beyond already operating on power captured by their own solar panels, Dan Murphy’s stores have generated more than 8,000 MWh of electricity already. That’s more than the average annual electricity use of over 1,400 households. “We are making our stores more sustainable, and energy use is a big part of our efforts,’ says Dan Murphy’s National Renewal Operations Manager Tyson Holbery.

So, if solar power gets you as excited as a slab of The Very Best, now’s your chance to consolidate your passions and get paid for them… in beer! Learn more and sign up at the VB Solar Exchange website.

The VB Solar Exchange program is only available in VIC, NSW, SA and QLD. Eligibility requirements and conditions apply
