Our survival guide is full of tips and tricks so you can make the most of summer.

Summer is all about long days and warm nights best spent sharing a cool drink. From backyard barbecues to picnics in the park, there’s nothing quite like the summer social season. Below, we’ve compiled our handy summer survival guide so you can make the most of it.

Do: Try a chilled light red

Some people only associate red wines with the colder months of the year, but there’s a bunch of lighter style reds which deserve to be on your radar in summer too. Lighter bodied and fruity red wines like pinot noir, gamay, and tempranillo are deliciously refreshing when served chilled. Give it a try.

Don’t: Take glass to the park

Glass can be heavy, breakable, and take up more room in recycling bins. Why not grab some bright reusable metal cups for the whole crew. Or when in doubt stick to tinnies like Little Creatures Pacific Ale.

Do: Forage the garden

Sometimes all you need to take a drink to the next level is a garnish. Head out to the garden or balcony to look for garnishes like herbs and citrus.

Don’t: Forget low and no-alc options

There are so many great low-alochol and non-alcoholic drink options now. There’s really no excuse for only being able to offer someone soda water if they’re not drinking. From zero alcohol beers, lighter wine styles, and even non-alcoholic spirits and cocktails — there’s something for everyone.

Do: Grill over charcoal

This summer is all about the hibachi! These little Japanese charcoal grills are everywhere right now. And why not – it’s a fun point of difference to your next summer barbeque.

Don’t: Kill the vibe

Is there anything worse than the music cutting out and killing the vibe? Make sure you’ve got your portable speaker charged up and ready to play the tunes for as long as you need.

Do: Try out boutique mixers

These aren’t your regular old tonic waters, these are boutique flavoured options with a gourmet twist. Splurge on special mixers like Fever Tree Mediterranean Tonic Water or Capi Pink Grapefruit for a luxurious twist to your classic drinks.

Don’t: Stick with the usual

We all have our favourites, but maybe it’s time to try something new. Instead of sticking with your go-to wine why not try a new varietal. Ask our instore Wine Merchants about discovering a new favourite and they’ll find you the perfect drop.

Do: Long Italian lunches

Italians know a thing or two about great summer entertaining. This summer throw your own long table Italian-style lunch outside, complete with checkerboard tablecloth, Freixenet Prosecco, and way too much food.

Don’t: Forget sunscreen

And remember to reapply too.
