The craft beer festival to end all craft beer festivals is back, and it’s taking the show on the road.
Every year, like clockwork, the world’s top filmmakers descend upon the French Riviera for the Cannes Film Festival – the biggest of its kind. That’s nice, but for those of us more interested in cans, it’s a festival closer to home that generates the most excitement. We’re talking, of course, about GABS Craft Beer Festival. Kicking off in Melbourne on Friday, 19 May, before heading to Sydney and Brisbane, it’s coming to a convention centre near you.
For the uninitiated, GABS brings together 120 of the world’s best craft breweries to strut their most creative, experimental stuff on the big stage. We’re talking never-seen-before, one-of-a-kind, festival-exclusive beers pouring from 240 taps at more than 60 pop-up bars.
Last year’s festival faves include The Catchment Brewing Co’s Ra Ra Raspoutine Imperial Stout, Moorebeer Brewing Co’s S’Moorebeer Sweet Stout, Public Brewing Co’s Groovy Smoothie Strawberry Guava Sour Kettle Sour, and Bucket Brewery’s Pandanus Pale Pale Ale, so prepare to experience some left-of-field flavours.
Taking it beyond the beer, GABS 2023 welcomes debuts from Archie Rose, Monkey Shoulder and Yellow Tail wines, alongside some exciting ciders, seltzers and non-alcoholic beverages from the best in the business. Sound good? That’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Festival-goers can expect to find street food, roving bands, eating competitions and more. Give your best Santana impression (Can-tana?) a go at the Mountain Goat Air Guitar Championship, chance your arm at tinnie-hurling with Balter’s Tins of Glory competition, or get involved in Australia’s wildest beer tasting with Atomic Brewing’s Wheel of Pourtune. Oh, there’s also a Black Flag Skate Ramp if you feel like busting out a kickflip.
Don’t miss your chance to join the celebrations; GABS tickets are on sale now. Wanna up your GABS game? My Dan’s members get 25% off tickets*, priority queue access and more great benefits. If you’re not a member yet, now’s the time to sign up. Hurry, tickets are limited (T&Cs apply).
