Which fruity varietal to sip while your face absorbs some vitamin C and other great ways to spend your weekend.

Doing a face mask is a great way to spend some downtime. A glass of wine is another great way to spend downtime. Combine them, and you’ve got yourself a really great Friday night in. Carry out this blissful activity while listening to your favourite podcast or chuck on your trackies, add a true friend or two, and set up in front of a movie you know off by heart. But which wine to pair with what mask? Don’t worry, we’ve worked it out. Ahead, sips and skin care to consume in unison.

Pair: A balanced red with a glow-bestowing night mask

A big work week might have left you, and your skin, a bit ‘blah’, or maybe your weekend plans call for some standout skin, or both. You need vitamins, specifically A and C, both giving their all in the EmerginC Vitamin C + Retinol Mask. With luminous skin underway, pour yourself something reliably delicious, balanced and polished like Cat Amongst The Pigeons Barossa Grenache Shiraz Mataró. Full-bodied but still light, it hints at spice, dark fruits, oak and earthiness in just the right amounts. In a line up of GSMs it’s a standout, just like you, particularly once you take that mask off.

Pair: A dry vegan white with a plant-powered exfoliating mask

Shake off the bad stuff: 9pm emails, overcooked rice and a $180 parking fine, with a double dose of the good stuff: an Insta-famous exfoliating mask and a glass of pinot grigio, both vegan.

Buzzy Tread Softly Pinot Grigio alludes to lemons and pears, while Summer Fridays Overtime Mask, is positively fruity, using pumpkin and apricot extracts to sweep away dead skin cells and leave you feeling all brand new and totally on trend.

Pair: A floral rosé with a hydrating sleep mask

All is calm, all is quiet, imagine you’re in a spring garden walking through the blossoms and apple trees on your way to pick strawberries, all while munching on a slice of watermelon. Open your eyes and you’ll find you’re actually drinking a glass of Alpha Domus Collection Rosé and wearing the Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask. Let yourself be super relaxed, because you don’t even have to wash this mask off. Just stay in your happy place.

Pair: A full bodied shiraz with deeply detoxing clay mask

Like the urge to clean out your wardrobe, colour code your bookcase or Marie Kondo your pantry, sometimes you need to pull out the big guns and purge your pores. Tata Harper Purifying Mask is the big gun. A natural clay mask that offers a total skin detox. Your wine choice needs to be something worthy of all the hard work the clay’s doing. The Butcher’s Friend Shiraz is one such wine. Made with traditional techniques it is the perfect representation of the Barossa Valley: fresh, lush and smooth. Job done.

Pair: A party-prepping mask with a party-starting Champagne

Saturday parties are preferred to Fridays because they provide ample prep time. Particularly if your preferred dress code is “fancy”. When it comes to getting skin to something between “Wow, who is that?” and “They really light up a room!”, no product does it better than Go-To Transformazing Sheet Mask. Leave it to soak for 15 minutes while you sip a chilled glass of Nicolas Feuillatte Sélection Brut Champagne and think about how fabulous you are.
