Some of the top beers available for $3 each at Dan Murphy's right now

Yep, just three bucks. All you have to do is head into Dan’s.

There’s very little you can get your hands on for less than $3 these days – something from the Maccas loose change menu, a coffee at 7-Eleven and a choccy bar from the supermarket might just be it. But lucky for you, right now, you can pop into your local Dan Murphy’s and pick up some of the best new beers for just $3 each (FYI, this is an in-store only deal).

If you’re new to beer and keen to dip your toe in, we’ve got fruity frothies, while for the already initiated or those who prefer something richer, there’s a dark brew or two in here, too.

1. Coopers Dark Ale

You know what we love more than bargain? A limited-edition bargain, which is exactly what the Coopers Dark Ale is – as well as being dark, creamy and delicious. It has two of everyone’s favourite flavours: coffee and chocolate. Even though it’s labelled a dark ale, don’t be fooled – this is a lighter style of beer, which means it’s equally great in the cooler months as when the sun’s out. What do they say? Day for it. And if it is a day for it, call your mates and fire up that barbecue for snags, steaks and mushroom burgers with a big bowl of potato salad.

2. Stone & Wood Peach Radler

If you’re not familiar with a radler, it’s a beer that hails from Germany. After a long ride, cyclists would mix their beer with fruit soda, and Stone & Wood recently revived the fresh beer style. First it was beer cut with citrus, which we loved, and then came the second iteration, beer with peach. The Peach Radler has flavours of juicy stone fruits and it’s a little sparkly, so this has more of a Spritz vibe to it. The Stone & Wood team double down on the stone fruit and recommend serving the Radler alongside a grilled peach and prosciutto salad.

3. 4 Pines Dark Lager

Sydney brewery 4 Pines is celebrating its 20th birthday this year, and we’re celebrating by cracking open a can of its Dark Lager. Think chocolate and coffee flavours, which come from roasted malts, almost like an adult’s chocolate cake. When it comes to how to serve this one, sticky date pudding is the way to go. The lager will cut right through the butterscotch sauce, and bring out notes of caramel, chocolate and coffee.

4. Asahi Super Dry Fusions Lemon Yuzu

There’s a saying that if it ain’t broke, well, you know how it goes, but Asahi makes a pretty good case for putting a spin on a classic. That’s what they’ve done with the Asahi Super Dry Fusions Lemon Yuzu. You can expect the crowd-favourite lemon, along with yuzu (my favourite) – the citrus that comes from east Asia, which is fresh, tart and sweet, and it sits somewhere between a grapefruit, lemon and mandarin. Serve this with fish tacos and lots of lime.

Guinness Draught Stout

5. Guinness Draught

We love that Guinness is back in fashion. We’ve even tried and tested some of the most questionable ways to drink it, but there’s something to be said about cracking an ice-cold can of the OG and enjoying it as intended. The 250-year-old Irish stout is rich with flavours of coffee and chocolate that come from the roasted barley, a little bitter, and it has a creamy head and that velvet-like textbook texture. A classic calls for a classic, so we’re ordering fish and chips.
