A line-up of top Aussie craft beers

From bold new hazies to crisp, flavourful mids, these newcomers are loaded with frothy, hoppy goodness.

If there’s one thing we’re not that short of in Australia, it’s new craft beer releases. Every week, it feels like there’s a new brewery or trendy new tinnie in fridges around the country to get acquainted with. How could you ever hope to keep up? Thankfully, this is where we come in. Doing our humble duty, we thought we’d take stock of some of the best new craft beer releases you need to know about right now.

1. Young Henrys Classic XPA

Sydney brewery Young Henrys is out to redefine what Australians think of as everyday staples with their new classics range: a tightly curated trio designed to give modern Aussie drinkers a myriad of dependable go-tos, no matter their taste. We’ve been eagerly awaiting this release for a while and we’re bloody pleased to report they are absolute bangers.

True to their creed of bringing hoppier beers to the masses, their first is the sessionable Young Henrys Classic XPA – one that straddles the line between fresh and fruity to cater for all hop lovers.

2. Young Henrys Classic Premium Lager

The second instalment in Young Henrys’ Classic Range takes the formula they’ve already established with their much-loved Natural Lager and fine-tunes it for the palate of thirsty Aussies. This is Classic Premium Lager, as all-Aussie as Russell Coight, with local barley taking the lead role alongside a subtle supporting cast of homegrown hops.

3. Young Henrys Classic Crisp Mid

Last and, actually, least – in one sense of the word. Young Henrys’ new holy trinity is capped off with a pared-back spin on their eminently popular Stayer Mid-strength. The Classic Crisp Mid is low carb and low alcohol, with under 100 calories and one standard drink per can. On the flavour end, it delivers, balancing smooth malt and a touch of hoppy character to offer something for lovers of both pales and lagers.

4. Pirate Life Hazy XPA

Pirate Life already makes one of Australia’s most affordable and popular pale ales, so making the expansion into easy-drinking hazy XPAs was a natural step for the guys and gals down in Port Adelaide. Big, flavourful US hops take centre stage in the Pirate Life Hazy XPA, mixing with a variety of grains that give the final product that smooth, almost creamy texture hazy drinkers love.

5. Gage Roads Hazy As Hazy Pale Ale

If there’s one thing recent times have taught us, it’s that Australia’s thirst for big, juicy beers remains unquenchable. Step forward Gage Roads, whose entry into the category with their Hazy As Hazy Pale Ale is as golden as a Western Australian sunset and positively dripping in Australiana, delivering big tropical flavours of passionfruit and pineapple.

6. Stone & Wood Hinterland Big Pale

Big by name, big by nature, the latest entry in Stone & Wood’s Hinterland series (famed for bright, bold beers made entirely with Aussie hops) is a left turn from a brewery that we lovingly associate with cruisy, easy-drinking ales. The key in the Hinterland Big Pale lies in the beer’s blend of all-aussie Eclipse and Vic Secret hops that lend it a delightfully citrus twang.
