It’s spooky season, and we’ve rounded up the best Halloween eps and sips of all time to celebrate.

Halloween is on the horizon! Time to dust off that old skeleton onesie, take a long trip down the lolly aisle and line up some of your favourite TV shows’ Halloween specials – especially if spooky films are not your vibe. If you’re more into The Office than The Conjuring, we’re with you. Life is scary enough as it is.

Let’s be honest, the episodes we’ve pulled together can be enjoyed any day of the year, but there’s something magic (or maybe, haunting?) about grabbing your closest mates and enjoying a couple of beverages and a bowl of sweet treats while you watch these on October 31. Buckle up, get (mildly) spooky and hit play.

Friends ‘The One with the Halloween Party’ with crowd-pleasing seltzers

Friends did Halloween right – no scary, all funny. In this ep, you’ve got Ross in his “Spud-nik” costume (a giant potato with a colander on his head), Phoebe’s identical sister Ursula (also played by Lisa Kudrow) making an appearance with her fiancé she met only two weeks earlier, Monica looking absolutely bangin’ as Cat Woman and Rachel telling a small trick-or-treating child to “shut up”. Fun fact about this ep, it’s Lisa Kudrow’s favourite and features Oscar winner Sean Penn. Crack a Pals Seltzer when you watch this Season 8 pearler. Why Pals? Well, Pals are best enjoyed with your closest friends while watching Friends. Plus, they’re a great drink to enjoy when no one told you life was gonna be this way. Pals have a flavour to appease every mate, but our pick of the litter is the Vodka, Peach and Passionfruit – it’s clean, simple and perfect for spring parties. It’s created using only a minimal number of great ingredients, making it an easy-drinking and refreshing beverage.

The Office (American) ‘Halloween’ with a budget-friendly wine

Honestly, almost everything about life in The Office is a nightmare. Season two, episode five opens with Michael realising he was supposed to fire someone before the end of the day thanks to a budget cut. Meanwhile, Jim and Pam post Dwight’s resume online in the hope he’ll accept another job. Notable mentions in this ep include Michael’s two-headed, paper mache costume, Dwight as a Sith Lord, and Devon dropping a giant pumpkin on Michael’s car. Pair this with a great low-price wine like Le Grand Roi Bouches du Rhone so you don't have to do your own budget cuts. This wine includes grenache, syrah and carignan grape varietals and has a supple, harmonious and well-rounded taste – just like Jim and Pam’s relationship.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer ‘Fear Itself’ and tasty beer

Is it really Halloween if you don’t watch an episode of Buffy? This one from season four (episode four) is particularly fitting. Buffy agrees to join Willow, Oz and Xander at a Halloween frat party, but instead they find themselves in a real-life house of horrors because a coupla frat brothers accidentally conjured a Fear Demon. Classic. This Fear Demon isn’t messing around either – when Buffy and the gang arrive it’s chaos – and everyone in the house is forced to experience their own worst personal fears. Given it’s (supposed to be) a frat party, we think it’s best to pair this with an American beer – but something way better than your standard frat house watered-down keg beer. Crack a Sierra Nevada Wild Little Thing Slightly Sour Ale – it’s got just the right amount of tartness for serious refreshment, while guava, hibiscus and strawberry lend fruity-sweet depth and a bright pop of colour. Fun!

Parks & Recreation ‘Meet 'n' Greet’ and a prosecco with a conscience

Parks & Rec has a few killer Halloween eps, but this one is our fave. Andy and April decide to throw a house party, but don’t tell their roommate Ben, who chooses passive aggression over confronting them directly. What follows are some classic Parks & Rec antics – at least seven simultaneous storylines, including some wrestling, a broken nose, the crash and burn of Tom’s company (Entertainment 720), a rare bit of vindication for poor old Jerry, and Ron Swanson being very, very Ron Swanson. Enjoy this season four episode with a can of Tread Softly Prosecco – yep, a can! Just like Leslie Knope, this family-owned wine producer is committed to creating more greenspace. They’ve planted over 100,000 native trees in the Yarra Yarra biodiversity corridor in WA, and for every six bottles of Tread Softly wine sold, another tree is planted. Plus, it tastes damn good.
