Three best My Dan's offers for September at Dan Murphy's

Whip out your My Dan’s card – Lara’s got recos for gamay, Pimm’s and Palomas.

Lara is the Editor in Chief of Dan’s Daily. Each month, she scours the list of 300+ My Dan’s member offers to find her favourite deals – the bottles you’ll definitely want to grab while the price is right. Spring is certainly springing. Pop outside and you’ll catch all the hallmarks – the sweet scent of blooming flowers wafting through the streets, a statistically significant lack of winter jackets, magpies eyeing you off for target practice. I’m just happy to see people out and about again, now that it’s not unbearable (I am in Melbourne, after all). But just because the days are fuller, doesn’t mean our bank accounts are. So, what’s a girl to do?

Rather than “trying harder” to save money, I prefer to use things like “My Dan’s” and “member offers” and “excessive quotation marks”. I want great drinks – in fact, I want them even more now the sun is out – and the My Dan’s member offers help me get ’em.

Below, find my three top picks for the month from the latest batch of offers. These prices, and hundreds more, are available in-store and online until October 9.

1. Golding Ombre Gamay

Let me introduce you to a really delicious gamay. You might know gamay as the grape used to make beautiful French Beaujolais, but Australia is making its fair share these days. Gamay plantings on home shores have doubled in the last five years and a lot of that’s coming from cool-climate sites in the Adelaide Hills – like this bad boy, which took out the inaugural Best Gamay at the Adelaide Hills Wine Show in December.

Now, we love gamay because it’s light, juicy and fresh, and literally the perfect wine for salty, snacky bar food. But this one in particular is all sour-sweet red berries and rich black cherries, full of young personality. If it matters to you, know that winemaker Tash Mooney opted for whole-bunch, open wild ferment with a small portion aged in older French oak. If that made you glaze over, just know it’s seriously yum. Serve it chilled, not too chilled, and thank me later.

2. Pimm’s No. 1

Nothing says “Oi, spring is here” more than a Pimm’s. This fruity, herby gin liqueur is a time-honoured English tradition, perfect for catching a spot of tennis or mingling at a party in the rose garden. Here at home, you’re more likely to be taking part in some backyard Finska, but either way, Pimm’s is excellent for whipping up a great big batch of delicious drinks to quench a crowd.

When in doubt, I love a Pimm’s with tonic and a good squeeze of lemon, over ice. But to make the classic Pimm’s Cup, you’ll want to add it to some lemonade or ginger ale (or both), whack in some fresh slices of cucumber, orange and strawberry, then just top it with plenty of mint and Bob’s your uncle. If you like a kick, I recommend muddling in some jalapeño too. No shaking required for this lower-alcohol sipper, leaving you more time to enjoy that spring weather you’ve bloody well earned.

3. Espolòn Sparkling Paloma cans

Hand on heart, I firmly believe the Paloma is one of the best cocktails in the world – and I’ll fight you on that. Tequila, grapefruit, lime, a bit of fizz – what more could you want? But here’s the thing: as we get into picnic season, I’m looking for portability.

Lucky for all of us, the fine folk at Espolòn (already well-known for their tasty and approachable tequila) have just released these new canned Sparkling Palomas. With real fruit and tonnes of bubbles, they’re damn refreshing. Exactly what you want looking up at you from the Esky on a sunny spring day.

Non-member price: $27.99
Member price: $20
