Some of the best white wines at Dan Murphy's for $15 and less

Affordable, approachable and genuinely enjoyable to drink.

Look, we love a big, expensive bottle as much as the next budding sommelier. There’s a time and a place for grand cru prestige, hand-chalked labels and tales about vineyards that have been in the family since before sliced bread (surprisingly not that long ago). But you know what else there is? Midweek Thai. Spontaneous catch-ups with mates. Fish and chips by a body of water. Occasions that don’t need a $200 bottle of Burgundy.

So, for those decidedly non-event events, we’ve pulled together a collection of brilliant whites around the $15 mark – think crisp chenin blancs, lively rieslings, refreshing proseccos and more. There’s a lot to like in the selection below, aside from their prices, so go ahead and take your pick.

1. Rewild Sustainably Made Prosecco

If you’re looking for a fun wine, with a touch of ‘give back to the planet’ and a healthy hit of Australian-made, then you‘ve hit the prosecco jackpot. Rewild‘s Sustainably Made Prosecco is crisp, appley and seriously good value for money – it‘s easy to see why this award-winning bottle has racked up some serious buzz. Perfect for a cheeky midweek pop alongside a generous hunk of Australia‘s finest sharp and crumbly (thank you, Mersey Valley), or zhuzhed up in your (and our) favourite cocktail: the good ol’ Aperol Spritz.

2. Toi Toi Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

How good’s a New Zealand savvy b? Especially one from Marlborough. Take it from this writer, who was literally just there and indulged in a few glasses, there’s something pretty special about these Kiwi drops. And this one? An absolute steal. Expect fresh tropical fruit and zesty grapefruit on the nose, followed by a bright, refreshing palate bursting with passionfruit and gooseberry flavours. It’ll go particularly well with that little fish and chippy number we were talking about earlier, particularly if you squeeze some lemon over the top of that meal.

3. Tread Softly Pinot Grigio

Pinot grigio is one of those great varieties that slots in happily alongside a meal and doesn’t get in its way. It’s bright, fresh and full of approachable fruit, which means it plays nice with so many different foods. The Tread Softly Pinot Grigio is an excellent example, and it’s extra compelling because it’s also doing its bit for the planet. For every case of Tread Softly sold, a tree gets planted, helping to grow a forest that’s now more than three million trees strong. In the glass, expect bright lemon, crisp apple and juicy pear notes, with vibrant acidity and a refreshingly clean finish. Pair this with everything from chips and dip to pasta, seafood, toasties – you name it.

4. Mullet Hard Gris

As they say, business in the front, party in the back, and that’s exactly what you get with Mullet Hard Gris. Ripe apple, pear, lemon rind and white floral notes are upfront, delivering a seriously flavour-packed mouthful. It’s carried by fresh acidity and a slightly higher-than-usual ABV (it’s 15%), giving it extra weight, drive and length. We have to say this is the kind of wine that’s made for the bachelor’s handbag AKA the supermarket rotisserie chook. That big body and complexity bring weight and intrigue to the classic chook, with just enough acidity to refresh, too.

5. Annie’s Lane Riesling

Clare Valley is here with the goods – this is a proper Thai-night riesling. Packed with vibrant, fruit-forward flavour, it’s pale green in the glass and bright citrus on the nose, before rolling into crunchy Granny Smith apple and grapefruit blossom on the palate. It all comes together in a fresh, lively style with a subtle chalky texture that’s interesting and super refreshing. Can you name a better duo than this riesling and a Thai green chicken curry? Do yourself a favour and try it out.
$12.99 each

6. Y Series Viognier

Y Series wines are vegan-friendly, fruit-forward and all about letting the grapes do their thing. Delivering the same generous weight as a chardonnay or roussanne, this viognier is your ticket to the fresher, lighter side of life without skimping on texture. Expect vibrant notes of ripe apricot, white tea and dried fig, all wrapped up in a soft, creamy mid-palate. As for what we’re pairing it with? This wine goes with just about everything. But if we’re talking date night or overdue friend catch-up, Indian is the move. Go for curries, spice, and yes, absolutely order extra garlic naans while you’re at it.

Amberley Chimney Brush Chenin Blanc

7. Amberley Chimney Brush Chenin Blanc

Chinese takeaway is always a hot favourite – the spring rolls, the dim sims, the old-school sweet and sour pork. If you agree, then you need a wine that can keep up with all that zesty, sticky, sweet-and-sour energy. Amberley Chimney Brush Chenin Blanc is that wine. Not only is the price right, but the bright acidity and crisp, clean flavour make it a dead-set dream alongside the icon that is sweet and sour pork. Think ripe red apple and tropical fruit aromas, followed by juicy pineapple and lychee on the palate. No notes.
$14.99 each

8. Arrogant Frog Chardonnay

We’re big on chardy here at Dan’s Daily. It’s hard not to be – it’s the grape that just keeps on giving. And Arrogant Frog’s French take? Yeah, this one lands. Right from the first pour, you get ripe red apple and sun-warmed tropical fruit on the nose. In terms of flavours, you can expect pineapple and lychee, all bright and juicy, carried with a clean, energetic feel that keeps it fresh rather than weighty. This isn’t a quiet wine. It wants company. Think creamy pasta loaded up with mushrooms – rich, buttery, cheesy, the lot.

Brown Brothers Moscato

9. Brown Brothers Moscato

If it’s been a while since you had a moscato, we think it’s time for a revisit. Bubbly, semi-sweet and a little musk-like, this is the little bottle that could. It’s an Aussie favourite, and while there’s all that fruit sweetness in the mix, it still manages to balance out with a refreshing finish. There are some non-negotiables: you have to serve it ice-cold, and we love it with some classic snacks – perhaps some sweet chilli with Philly and a packet of Jatz on the side. It’s another excellent pick for spice, too.
